- An ash cloud from a Chilean volcano is disrupting air travel in Australia and New Zealand once again, say airlines. Volcanic ash from the eruption of the Puyehue Cordon Caulle volcano in Chile continues to cause flight disruptions to the Qantas network. Qantas and Jetstar suspended Wednesday flights to and from Queenstown, Christchurch and Wellington. Qantas flights between Sydney and Buenos Aires are delayed.
- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration will be testing a new trusted traveler program this fall that will expedite airport screening for frequent travelers. TSA intends to work with U.S. airlines to collect information on those travelers willing to share information about themselves. This will help TSA make informed judgments which will hopefully help speed up the security lines.
- JetBlue Airways announced the addition of a fourth daily flight to its popular Boston-Chicago route. Starting Wednesday, September 7, 2011, Bostonians will be able to choose from an even wider array of times to fly to Chicago.
- Abu Dhabi Airports Company announced the launch of Czech Airlines flights, the flag carrier of the Czech Republic, to Abu Dhabi International Airport. The new airline will start operations on September 21, 2011, with four non-stop weekly flights connecting the Capital to the city of Prague.
- A one-day, general strike is on in the UK as more than a million teachers, civil servants and union workers are walking picket lines in protest of pension cuts. Passport officers are absent at airport immigration entry points and long lines are expected. Other public services may be affected.
