  • The U.S. State Department is warning U.S. citizens to avoid all nonessential travel to Honduras due to the current unstable political and security situation there. Noting the ouster on Sunday by the Honduran military of President Manuel Zelaya, the department also recommended that American citizens residing in and visiting Honduras remain close to their homes or hotels, unless they travel was for a scheduled departure from the country. The U.S. Embassy has restricted the travel of its staff within Honduras to necessary trips. For more information, visit www.travel.state.gov.
  • On May 15, TSAís Secure Flight program started requiring all travelers on domestic flights to provide their full name ‚ as it appears on the government issued identification they will be traveling with ‚ when making airline reservations. Beginning Aug. 15, travelers must provide their date of birth and gender.Ý For international flights, full name, date of birth and gender must be requested and collected as of Oct. 31, 2009.Ý For more information on Secure Flight visit www.tsa.gov.
  • As of June 1, a passport card is required to drive or fly to Canada or Mexico or cruise to any Caribbean island. A passport is necessary to fly to any foreign country other than those just listed.Ý Be prepared or face delays, please check www.travel.state.gov/passport, for details.
  • The World Health Organization has declared a flu pandemic with the newest strain of swine flu, H1N1. Although relatively mild, thousands of cases have been reported worldwide. Be cautious and preventÝ infection by practicing good personal hygiene. Cover coughs and sneezes, wash hands often and stay home if you become ill.
