DELTA INTRODUCES NEW FARE

Delta Air Lines has introduced a new class of service, “lowest-priced fares”, which do not allow refunds, changes or advance seat assignments. Basic Economy fares are only available in two markets now but the carrier has plans to expand this fare type after an evaluation period. (BusinessTravelnews.com, March 26)

As summer approaches major carriers are raising fares to cash in on increased seasonal travel demand. Airfares are up about 13% as more families plan vacations and students travel overseas. (Eturbonews.com, April 6)

Spirit Air will start charging for carry-on luggage on Aug. 1, advance check-in $30, airport check-in, $45. Spirit will allow one free item such as a briefcase or purse that fits underneath the seat in front of you. (Bloomberg.com, April 7)

Ryanair is increasing checked bag fees by about 33% for peak summer season travel. (USAToday.com, April 7)
