  • Flight schedules at many U.S. airports could be affected due to inclement weather this week and weekend. Call your airline to check your flight status before leaving for the airport.
  • Relief efforts continue in Haiti, in the wake of a devastating earthquake causing the deaths of thousands and widespread property damage. The Port-au-Prince airport remains closed to commercial traffic.
  • US Airways and American Airlines have raised domestic checked baggage fees to match the higher rates now charged by Delta, Continental, and United. Each carrier will charge $25 each way for the first bag, and $35 for a second.Ý A discount applies when you check-in online.
  • Prepare to pay even more for holiday/peak travel days in 2010. Delta, Northwest and United are raising surcharges from $20 to $30 each way for flying on March 14, 20, 21, and 28 and April 5. Travelers will pay between $10 and $50 each way to travel on what the carriers define as holiday or peak travel days.
  • Effective March 1, you will no longer be able to earn frequent flier miles by grocery shopping with an airline affinity credit card. Alaska, American, Continental and United will discontinue this means of mileage accrual.
  • Washington Dulles has unveiled the AeroTrain, joining other large airports that use intra-airport rail to transport passengers from terminal to terminal. For now, passengers heading to A, B and C gates will use the train. It wonít completely replace the airportís bus system, which will still be used to shuttle international arrivals passengers to customs and run between the main terminal and D and H gates.
